There are two main forms of housing provided by Hume Community Housing:
- Social Housing
- Affordable Housing
Social Housing
What is social housing?
Social housing is provided to those on low to moderate incomes. Some social housing is managed by community housing providers like Hume (community housing) while other properties are managed by Housing NSW (public housing). The same eligibility criteria are used by all providers to assess applications for assistance.
Only one application is needed to apply for social housing. Your application can be made through Hume, Housing NSW or a number of other community providers.
The rent for social housing is determined based on income.
Eligibility for social housing
To be eligible, you must meet all of the following requirements:
- Be a citizen or have permanent residency in Australia
- Be resident in NSW
- Have a household income within the income eligibility limit. The information on income limits are in the Fact Sheet
- Not own any assets or property which could reasonably be expected to resolve your housing need
- Be able to sustain a successful tenancy with or without support
- If applicable – make repayments of any former debts to a social housing provider
