To create vibrant, sustainable and cohesive communities through the delivery of outstanding homes and equitable services.

Statement of Purpose

As a Community Housing Provider, Hume builds communities and networks in order to:

  • Enhance the lives of our tenants
  • Attract and create new housing services to benefit people on lower incomes who are in housing stress
  • Ensure equitable access to all our services

Hume Community Housing is a long established organisation with strong community links and relationships. Hume seeks to contribute to the well being of individual customers  through the assistance it delivers and contributes to the wider community through the services provided.

The mission Hume pursues is the achievement of excellence in strategy, structures, systems and services.

Essence and Objectives

A Strategic Plan is developed by Hume’s Board of Directors in consultation with Staff, Tenants and the community every 5 years. The Strategic Plan outlines Hume’s objectives goals and direction for the years that it covers. It outlines what we do, what we plan to do and who we will do it for, for the next 5 years.
As outlined in Hume’s strategic plan for 2010-2014 Hume has 6 key objectives:

  • Customer Focused, Customer Driven
    Provide high quality accessible, customer focused and customer driven services which put all customers at the heart of everything we do and promote quality and diversity throughout the organisation

  • Outstanding Homes, Quality Refurbishment & Maintenance
    Ensure all the organisation’s homes, including the planned provision of more homes, are designed, constructed, refurbished and maintained to the best affordable standard

  • Vibrant, Sustainable and Cohesive Communities
    Improve the quality of life for our customers through having a role in regenerating communities. This is to be achieved through direct support or by facilitating the involvement of other agencies in order that the places people live become places they want to stay in and places other people will want to move to

  • Governance and Leadership
    The board of Hume Community Housing will be governing the organisation whilst management will be managing the organisation; a partnership in the leadership and management of Hume Community Housing

  • Efficient Organisation, Effective Organisation
    Ensure the organisation provides efficient, effective and value for money services which protect the viability of the organisation. Respond to the competitive environment by implementing excellent strategies, structures and systems that are supported by continuous improvement and organisational development processes

  • Housing Growth, Service Growth
    Increase the capacity of the organisation to deliver more affordable and social housing and services that meet the evolving needs of our customers. Explore and where suitable, utilise the internal and external opportunities that are available and develop innovative ways to grow

Areas Hume Covers

History

1983 Fairfield Rental Housing Association Established (under auspice of Fairfield Community Resource Centre)
Liverpool Rental Housing Association Established (under auspice of Liverpool City Council)
1993 Executive Officers worked as part of the team that founded NSW Federation of Housing
1994 Fairfield Rental Housing Association and Liverpool Rental Housing Association amalgamated to form Hume Community Housing Association.
Hume managed 125 properties
1995 Hume is the first housing association to be granted growth status by Office of Housing Policy
Social Club began
1997 CAP Property of 4 Units built at Hamilton Road for Laotian and Cambodian Tenants
1999 Hume is first housing association in Australia to achieve 3 year status as an Accredited Community Housing Provider
1999 Hume is the first housing association in NSW to manage 500 properties
2001 Executive Officers and Chairperson early members of Australasian Housing Institute
2003 Hume receives State Award for Excellence in Building Communities
2004 Hume managed 857 properties
2008 Hume receives NSW Award for Excellence in Community Housing – Excellence in Creative Solutions for Temporary Assistance Program (TAP)
2010 Hume manages 1,300 properties
2012 Opened new office in Claymore. This office was opened to ensure accessibility for customers within the South Western Sydney areas as Hume expands its allocation of properties within the area.
2012 Telopea development handed over to Hume with 152 new units across 3 buildings in July. These units were fully tenanted by September and have been hugely successful.
