Meet Renee!

Renee is a part of Hume's Housing for People with Disability Team and has been with Hume for just over two years.

 

The purpose of my role is to help customers find the right home for them, also to support the engagement and development of relationships with our stakeholders.

 

My job is important because I advocate for and support our customers to ensure that they receive person-centred services and create opportunities for housing choice.

 

My weekday usually starts with encouraging my 3 dogs and 2 cats to get out of their nice warm beds in the morning, have their breakfast and ensure everyone gets a pat and hug before I head to work.

 

A typical day’s work for me includes chatting with a customer and/or their support person about Hume’s SDA vacancies and exploring options to find the right home for each customer. I also gather information from NDIS, NDIS Quality and Safeguard Commission and other services about their service, news releases and available resources and share this information with our customers, internal and external stakeholders. 

 

Something surprising about my role that you may not be aware of is that it is a new role at Hume. It was created to ensure that customer’s rights, choices and housing needs are adhered to in accordance with NDIS practice standards.

 

Some of the more challenging aspects of my job include adapting to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions meant a number of face-to-face meetings could not happen. We have been creative and implemented new ways to maintain contact with our customers and other stakeholders via Hume Facebook social posts, Zoom meetings, mailouts, and phone calls.

 

I work closely with members of the Housing for People with Disability and Supported Independent Living (SIL) teams and depend on their support and collaboration to ensure I can do my job and help the customer to find the right home.

 

What I love most about my work is seeing the customer achieve their housing choice.

 

When I sign off after a busy day, I really like to send time playing with my dogs and cats to help me unwind and relax.
